| The idea came to us after my partner had been asking me to make a Welsh Rarebit like his Nana (Vera Hughes) used to make him. She also made and sold her Welsh Rarebit at the Tudor Cafe in Rhyl, coincidentally where my Grandma (Gladys Nield-Siddall) also worked! So I did my best to make a batch as quickly as possible. My brother and a mutual friend were over the next evening, and after a few drinks to catch up on lost time everyone was hungry so I offered to make up some hot buttered toast with some of my first batch of rarebit. My partner had put the left over welsh rarebit into an old plastic butter dish in the fridge the night before and when we opened the fridge the next day just | like that 'Wow' we just knew that we were on to a winner with our idea. I wish I'd have had a camera to catch the look on their faces when my brother and friend tried it for the first time. Since then I have adapted the Grandmothers' recipe and now feel confident with our rarebit. I started offering this for sale at Llanberis Farmers' Market on Good Friday 2008, I took 30 pots to market and sold out in just under 2 hours, and that's where Natty's Welsh Rarebit began... Ideally I would like my products to be bought as a token of nourishment, feeding the soul of the consumer. It's a hearty dish and provides nutritional and emotional satisfaction. |
